Meditation is not an empty mind
The most common misunderstanding about meditation, and a more realistic way to begin.
Many people quit meditating because they feel they failed: the mind stayed busy. But an empty mind was never the goal.
Meditation is attention training. You choose one point of focus, like the breath, notice when attention drifts, and bring it back.
Start with five minutes. Sit on a chair or cushion, spine tall but not rigid, and set a timer so you're not checking the clock.
Count breaths from one to ten, then start again. If you lose count, go back to one without judging yourself.
After two weeks, most people notice a small gap between what happens and how they react. That's where the benefit lives.
