The eight limbs of yoga, simply
Asana is only one of eight. A plain-language summary of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.
Around two thousand years ago, Patanjali compiled the Yoga Sutras, which describe eight limbs of yoga — ashtanga, from asta (eight) and anga (limb).
Yama and niyama are how we treat others and ourselves: non-harming, truthfulness, simplicity, discipline, and contentment.
Asana is posture and pranayama is breath regulation. These are the two we know best in the studio.
Pratyahara is drawing the senses inward. Dharana, dhyana, and samadhi are concentration, meditation, and absorption.
You don't need to master one limb before the next. All eight support each other, on and off the mat.
